The spokesperson of The Gambia Police Force, Cadet ASP Binta Njie, has confirmed to the Alkamba Times that the Police special investigations unit has completed its investigation into the alleged missing D11 million in the judiciary, and the report sent to the Attorney General’s chambers for legal advice.
“The special investigations unit of the Police have investigated the case and sent the report to the Attorney General chambers for legal advice.” Police PRO told TAT.
This came barely 24 hours after the Office of the Chief Justice issued a press release denying the D11 million fraud and mismanagement within the judiciary, saying such allegations are false.
The story, first published in the Standard Newspaper two weeks ago, revealed that the Office of the Chief Justice reported a suspected case of fraud and corruption involving a judiciary staff.
The report also alleged that an account officer at the center of the D11 million investigations has been interdicted.
The Standard’s informant also disclosed that the Central Bank of The Gambia detected the anomalies and flagged the Office of the Chief Justice, which subsequently invited the police to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, a press statement from the office of the Chief Justice, contrary to the media report, says that in 2021 there appeared to be an attempt of fraud in the judiciary. It was discovered, and necessary actions were taken.
