The three detained officials of the Basse Area Council have been released on police bail pending further investigations into the suspected financial fraud.
The spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force, ASP Cadet Binta Njie, told the Alkamba Times that the three BSAC officials were granted bail on Thursday, May 11, 2023, following their arrest over suspected financial fraud.
The trio includes the Finance Director, Lamin Suso, former Finance Manager, Malafi Badjie, and Council’s Cashier, Ndaba Krubally, who were arrested as suspects in depositing over D6 million of the Council’s funds into Suso’s personal account as per an audit report.
However, the Police confirmed that an investigation panel had been constituted to investigate the matter.
“Arrests were made. A panel was constituted to investigate the matter. A suspected case of fraud. They are granted bail and asked to report at the Basse police station as the investigation proceeds,” says the police Spokeswoman.
These council officials were arrested on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, following an audit report published by the Alkamba Times, which reported that the Finance Director had unlawfully deposited the Council’s funds amounting to over D6 million into his business account.
In the same report, it has been revealed that the Finance Director has withdrawn over D4 million from various council accounts, which he said was used for the Council’s operations.
