Ahead of the Africa Volleyball Cup of Nations in Egypt, the Head Coach of the Gambia Volleyball team, Omar Badjie, said he is confident of positive results in the Confederation of Africa Volleyball Federation Cup of Nations in Egypt.
“I am very optimistic. As you know, every coach will anticipate the highest level, gold. We are very confident about going and competing, and in sha Allah, with the help of god, we will do something. The commitment and determination I saw in the boys, we will get a positive result, ” Badjie told the Alkamba Times Sports.
This is the first time the Gambia has competed in the continental tournament on an indoor court.
While sounding upbeat about the competition, Coach Badjie believes that there is a need for the Gambia to get an indoor court to help prepare the boys for future competition.
” We are going to the tournament prepared mentally and psychologically. We have players playing in Senegal and other leagues, which will help. But definitely, we need an indoor court for us to compete against countries that have the infrastructure. An indoor court is the way forward. We are calling on the government to help the young build an indoor court in the country.”
The Gambia team is set to leave Banjul for Egypt tonight, and the coach has selected 12 players who will be traveling with the team, with officials and the delegation as well.
