The Kerr Mama sports committee has commenced a football tournament in honor of late Sports and health Journalist Pa Modou Faal who died in a car crash earlier this year.
The tournament is a unique tribute to the sports journalist who left a shining legacy in local football with significant contributions to sports development.
The Kerr Mama Sports committee’s organizers say the tournament was held to honor the outstanding sports journalist who immensely supported grassroots football in the community.
On Saturday, scores of football fans joined by the late Journalist’s family gathered at Kerr Mama to witness the Super cup opening at the Alh. Gabbie Sosseh mini Stadium.
The emotional kick-off was taken by PM Faal’s young Son, Muhammed Faal, and his Mother, Mariama Faal.
The opening saw Kerr Mamas Ma Sosseh FC winning 1-0 against the German boys of Fass Omar Saho.
PM Faal, as he is fondly called, was an ardent football lover who promoted sports as a way of unifying people. In addition, Mr. Faal was a veteran sports reporter known for his commitment to health reporting.
Gambian US Based MLS referee Baboucarr Jallow a great friend of the late Journalist who sponsored the tournament, said Pa was a good brother who loved and supported sports.
According to the organizers, Pa Modou was a mentor and close friend to Jallow and played a significant role in bringing sports to Kerr Mama.
In January 2022, Journalist Pa Modou Faal, a veteran of over 20 years and Musa Ndow, formerly of the Daily Observer, and health worker Kawsu Bayo all died in a tragic car crash in Jiffin while traveling on a working tour in the Jarra area.
Mr. Faal was a senior executive member of the Gambia Press Union who later joined the health ministry. His death sent shockwaves across the country.
