The Gambia Football Federation, in partnership with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, is funding the construction of a mini stadium in Nyakoi village in the Wuli West of the Upper River Region to the tune of fourteen million dalasis.

The GFF earlier Thursday afternoon revealed the signing of a contract agreement to construct the said stadium in Nyakoi village, promising to give further details about the project.

However, an introductory document of the project seen by the Alkamba Times revealed that the two partners had entrusted a masterplan architect and engineer with the design and supervision of the project.

“The contract was evaluated and awarded to the most responsive construction company, namely Kalifa Bayo and Sons Jula Kunda Construction Company,” the document stated.

In October 2022, the Alkamba Times reported a clue about this dream stadium which was revealed to the medium as a D11.1 million project.

The report came following an extensive publication on TAT summing up the negligence of authorities and poor infrastructure in undermining the state of football in URR.

The GFF had earlier confirmed this potentially life-changing project but promised to share more details if all documentation is put in place with the Saudi Arabians for work to commence.

However, when contacted after they disclosed the latest contract signing, the Director of Communication of the GFF, Baboucarr Camara, affirmed that “The foundation laying of the project is this Saturday in Nyakoi, and all the details will be disclosed there.”

Meanwhile, as per the document this medium shows, the project is a D14 million stadium, including D2 million chipped in by the GFF. It is expected to finish in four months from the time of start.

The grass pitch project consists of a new perimeter fence of three meters in height, a lawn sprinkler system, borehole systems, two dressing rooms, a referee’s room, a medical room, and an office block for the regional football association.
