The Gambia Bankers Association has announced the election of seasoned Gambian Banker Madam Isatou Jawara as the group’s new President.
“We are thrilled to announce and extend our warmest congratulations to Madam Isatou Jawara on her well-deserved appointment as the President of The Gambia Bankers Association. This momentous decision was made in accordance with the resolutions adopted during our recent meeting on 21st December 2023,’ the Association said in a statement.
Madam Jawara’s remarkable leadership as the Managing Director of Agib Bank (G) Ltd has been a shining example in the banking industry. Her dedication, expertise, and commitment have set her apart, making her the ideal candidate for this prestigious role. As of 22nd December 2023, Madam Jawara assumes the presidency, marking a significant milestone for our esteemed Association.
“We are confident Madam Jawara’s exceptional qualities and proven track record assure us that the Association will not only maintain its current trajectory but also flourish in the coming years, the Bankers Association added.
Reacting to the news, the newly elected President of GBA told Alkamba Times: ” Every work with fair play and good moral ethics pays handsomely someday in life.”
Isatou Jawara obtained both GCE O’ levels & GCE A’level in 1994 and 1996, respectively. She holds a B.Sc(honors) in Business Management 2000 from the University of Hull, UK. She again forged into the University of Leicester, where she bagged an MBA in Finance in 2002.
In 2003, she returned to the Gambia and joined Guaranty Trust Bank(GTBank) as an Executive Trainee. Since then, she served in various capacities and areas, such as retail Bank, Commercial Bank, and corporate bank groups. She rose through the ranks until she was appointed an executive director in 2011.
She coordinated the first and the second loan syndication ever in The Gambian banking industry.
Being a well-seasoned banking personnel with vast experience, She served in this portfolio up to 2020, when she finally filed her resignation to leave the Bank.
In the same year, 2021, she was appointed as the MD/CEO of Agib Bank Ltd and is currently serving in that capacity.
She expresses her gratitude for this new appointment and thanks her colleagues in the Association for entrusting her with this portfolio.
She unreservedly said she’s keenly looking forward to her new position’s new challenges and opportunities. She promised to do her best in this new task to exceed their expectations of her. She concludes.
