Dear friends, family, and colleagues,

Please join us in mourning and celebrating the life of an extraordinary man, Dr. Lamin Jonsaba Marenah, who passed away at his Fajara residence. His story is a remarkable achievement, exceptional leadership, and selfless service. His legacy will continue to inspire us all for generations to come.

Dr. Marenah was more than just the first Gambian male to achieve a Ph.D. in Science. He was a trailblazer, a visionary, and a true pioneer. He broke down barriers and opened up opportunities for generations of young Gambians to follow. He dedicated his life to the service of his country, continent, and the world, and his impact was felt in countless ways.

As the Director of Agriculture Service and head of the FAO Africa Region for decades, Dr. Marenah used his expertise and vision to transform agricultural practices and improve food security across the continent. He lifted millions from poverty, ensuring they had the resources to thrive. In addition, he was a true champion of education, serving as the first Chancellor of The University of The Gambia and providing young Gambians with the tools they needed to succeed in life.

Dr. Marenah’s legacy is selfless service, dedication, and leadership. He was a faithful servant leader, always putting the needs of others before his own. His love for his country and people was unparalleled, and his impact will be felt for generations. And when he was approached to lead the PPP, he recommended his brother and friend, Dr. Dawda Jawara, knowing that he would be the best person to lead the country to independence and prosperity.

As we mourn the passing of this great man, let us also celebrate his life and many accomplishments. Let us honor his memory by continuing his work by striving to make the world a better, more just, and prosperous place for all. Let us always remember him as a shining example of what it means to be a true leader, friend, and servant of the people.

We invite all who knew and loved Dr. Marenah to join us in mourning his passing and celebrating his life. Funeral prayers will be held at the Pipeline Mosque tomorrow at 2 pm. We hope to see you all there as we pay our final respects to this great man.

Dr. Marenah’s life was a gift to us all, and your legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come. We will miss you dearly, but we will never forget your incredible impact on our lives and the world. Rest in peace, dear uncle, and thank you for everything you did to improve our world.
