Dr. Alieu Gibba, a well-known lecturer at the University of The Gambia (UTG), has been dismissed after allegations that his public statements on the alleged malpractices harmed the institution’s reputation.

The dismissal pertains to Dr. Gibba’s claims about alleged irregularities in the University’s promotion processes. His allegations, which he has not ‘substantiated’, reportedly prompted UTG management to request evidence, which the University states Dr. Gibba has failed to provide.

In a dismissal letter titled “Dismissal from the Employment of the University of The Gambia,” and seen by TAT, the University accused Dr. Gibba of disseminating “false or unverified information,” which it claimed had tarnished its reputation. The letter described his actions as “serious misconduct” that violated UTG’s policies on professional conduct and integrity.”

“Your action of disseminating false or unverified information could, and actually, did tarnish the reputation of the University. It is a serious misconduct that breaches our policies on professional conduct and integrity. Therefore, I am directed to inform you that you have been dismissed from employment at the University of The Gambia (UTG) with immediate effect,” as stated in the letter from the University.

UTG has instructed Dr. Gibba to return all university property and warned him against disclosing confidential information about the institution.

Dr. Gibba previously made headlines for exposing alleged misconduct in staff promotions at UTG, leading to public debate. However, failing to provide the requested evidence to the University reportedly contributed to his dismissal.
