The Court of Appeal of The Gambia on Monday 13th June 2022 adjourned the criminal murder of Yankuba Touray, ex-minister of Local Government for two weeks ( 27th June 2022) to correct records of the proceedings of the High Court.
The panel presided over by the trio judges were Justice Na-Ceesay Sallah-Wadda, Justice Haddy Cecilia Roche, and Justice Justice Basiru V.P. Mahoney.
Yankuba Touray was on 14th July 2021 sentenced to death for the murder of the former Minister of Finance of the Gambia, Ousman Koro Ceesay in 1995 at his residence in Kololi. Touray has vehemently denied the indictment against him.
Recently, Touray is seeking the Court of Appeal to overturn the initial sentencing, arguing that the sentencing judge Justice Jaiteh was wrong in law in imposing a heavy sentence of life imprisonment.
The Gambia’s recent release of the report by the Truth Commission found Yankuba Touray and co-accused persons culpable for the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay. The report suggests some prosecutions for all those involved in the murder of the former Finance Minister Koro Ceesay.
