The founder of Rahma Foods in The Gambia, Alassan Ceesay, met the United States Treasury Secretary, Ms. Janet Yellen, in Washington D.C. during a trip to the U.S. Capitol.

Their meeting came during the high-profile general assembly of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Washington from 10 – 16 October 2022.

The young British-Gambian entrepreneur said his meeting with the top U.S. official responsible for formulating and recommending domestic and international financial, economic, and tax policy was centered on global challenges that required concerted global action.

“I emphasized the need for world leaders to do more of what is urgent without losing sight of what is important,” Ceesay said.

At a similar meeting, Alassan Ceesay met the German Finance Minister, Dr. Eva Wimmer, Ms. Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance and First Deputy Prime Minister of The Netherlands, and Ms. Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, the Finance and Sustainable Development Minister of Bahrain.

Alassan, a Cambridge University Scholar in the United Kingdom (U.K.), attended the IMF and World Bank annual general meeting as a guest under the invitation of the two International organizations.

The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations, and academics.

The fiscal meetings seek to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty, eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
