Police prosecutors have filed treason and concealment of treason charges against two civilians and one policeman for their alleged role in the coup plot against the government of President Adama Barrow, court documents seen by Alkamba Times reveal.

Muhammed Jabbi and Saikou Jawara, both civilians, and Fabakary Jawara, a police officer, were arraigned before a lower court in Banjul earlier today before Principal Magistrate Muhammed Krubally, and both accused persons deny any involvement.

According to the bill of indictment, the trio, sometimes in October and December 2022 within Banjul and diverse places in the country, conspired among themselves and failed to dispatch the information to overthrow a democratically elected President Barrow to a minister, Magistrate, a police officer or a member of the armed forces.

They were further accused of being informed by the alleged ring leader, Corporal Sanna Fadera, to overthrow a democratically elected President Barrow, which they failed to dispatch to a minister, Magistrate, police officer, or member of the armed forces.

The accused persons are remanded in custody, and the case is transferred to the high court, which has the jurisdiction to try such capital offenses.

Meanwhile, the government last week announced the launch of a joint investigation panel to investigate the alleged coup plot to topple the government foiled two weeks ago.

The panel, which includes various security apparatuses and the Ministry of Justice, has 30 days to submit their report after their probes.
