The Gambia Police Force has vowed to bring to book suspects involved in the Attack against Police Intervention Fass Njaga Choi’s post early Sunday morning, shooting one of its men on duty.
Heavily armed men reportedly stormed the North bank settlement of Fass Njaga Choi Sunday morning between 3:30 am to 4 am. They severely beat up police intervention unit personnel at a checkpoint before seizing his rifle and disappearing into Senegal.
The Police spokesperson, Cadet ASP Binta Njie, confirmed the incident and said the police had launched investigations into the matter.
“I urge the general public not to panic. The police are doing their best to ensure safety and security for all. We have arrested a resident of Fass Njaga Choi, who is currently in our custody, helping with the investigation. We will not relent until we track down the suspects(persons of interest),” PRO Njie explained.
She confirmed that one Corporal, Lamin Jammeh, was shot by the alleged Armed robber and currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Cadet ASP Njie added that the number of armed robbers who attacked the station could not be confirmed as investigations are ongoing.
She confirmed that one Muhammed Jahated shop was attacked, and a sum of 30,000 Cfa was taken away.
Eyewitnesses told TAT that the cross-border gang numbered more than 20 and split into two groups during the Attack. The first group engaged PIU officers at a nearby checkpoint.
The other group broke into shops in the village, getting away with thousands of dalasi.
Our sources also revealed that a PIU officer (withheld) was shot in the right hand, and an AK 47 rifle with 30 live rounds of ammunition was taken away from him.
