The Gambia Police Force has filed an originating summons against two men serving as sureties for Mbemba Drammeh, a former prominent supporter of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), who has reportedly fled to France after being released on police bail amid allegations of election rigging.

The summons, submitted to the Kanifing Magistrate Court, demand that Saidou Bayo and Musa Foday Kanteh produce Mbemba Drammeh or face imprisonment or a fine of D200,000. The case will be heard at the Court on Monday at 11 a.m.

However, both Bayo and Kanteh contested the police’s claim, stating that the amount specified in their bail bond for Drammeh was actually D100,000, not D200,000, as indicated in the police summons.

Mbemba Drammeh was arrested last year following accusations he made during an appearance on The Politic Kacha Show, which aired on Kerr Fatou media. He alleged that the NPP, led by President Adama Barrow, was involved in electoral fraud during the 2021 elections and claimed to possess evidence to support his assertions.

After his release on bail, Drammeh reportedly left The Gambia for two weeks in France, prompting concerns about the implications of his allegations and the ongoing investigations into the electoral process.
