Together for Autism Gambia (TFAG) took to the streets today for its “Walking for Autism Awareness” event, held in honor of Autism Awareness Month. The vibrant march from Africell to Westfield united community members, civil society organizations, NGOs, and government representatives in a powerful display of solidarity for individuals with autism.

The event aimed to raise awareness and foster inclusion for autistic individuals, aligning with TFAG’s mission to create a society that embraces their unique needs. “We are committed to fostering inclusion, acceptance, and empowerment for autistic individuals across all sectors,” said Sirreh Saho, TFAG’s Founder and President.

Saho, motivated by personal experience and a passion for supporting children, founded TFAG to provide resources and advocacy for families affected by autism. In her speech, she called for communities to move beyond awareness to true acceptance, celebrating the diverse strengths of those on the autism spectrum. “No child should be left behind due to a diagnosis, and no parent should feel alone,” she said.

Genevieve Senghore, CEO of the Dyslexia Trust Gambia, also spoke at the event, advocating for inclusive education and emphasizing that “all children are special and capable.” She urged society to reject harmful labels and embrace the beauty of difference.

The walk underscored TFAG’s ongoing efforts to promote autism awareness, advocate for rights, and support families. As the organization continues its work, today’s event marked a significant step toward a more inclusive Gambia.
