MoHERST Congratulates UTG Valedictorian Ebrima Sumareh
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) has extended warm congratulations to Ebrima Sumareh, who emerged as Valedictorian at the University of The Gambia’s 18th Convocation Ceremony.
Sumareh, a student of the School of Arts and Sciences and native of Wuli Barrow Kunda in the Upper River Region, was named the overall best graduating student in the Class of 2025. His outstanding academic achievement exemplifies the values of discipline, perseverance, and excellence that MoHERST promotes nationwide.
The Ministry described the feat as not only a personal triumph but also a proud moment for his family, community, and the entire nation. It underscores the positive impact of ongoing investments in education and human capital development.
MoHERST commended the leadership and staff of the University of The Gambia for their dedication to academic excellence. The Ministry urged all students to draw inspiration from Sumareh’s success and stay committed to their studies.

Retired Major Dr. Kebba Gibba Earns PhD in Public Administration, Inspiring Foni and Beyond
In a remarkable story of resilience and academic excellence, Retired Major Dr. Kebba Gibba has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Administration by the University of The Gambia.
The achievement has sparked widespread celebration among the Gibba Kunda family and the people of Foni, who view the milestone as a collective triumph. Once a distinguished officer in the Gambia Armed Forces known for his discipline and service, Dr. Gibba faced significant personal and professional challenges, including removal from active duty. Yet, he transformed adversity into opportunity, emerging as a scholar committed to knowledge and nation-building.
In a heartfelt tribute, Hon. Almameh Gibba, National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala, praised his brother: “Your PhD is not just a personal victory; it is a legacy for all of us. This is Foni’s day and Gibba Kunda’s day.” He highlighted Dr. Gibba’s journey as a powerful example of patience, faith, and resilience, noting that “with hardship comes ease.”
