With only ten days before the Africa Cup of Nations will start in Cameroon, The Gambia national team is hit with a major blow at their camp in Qatar.
A squad of 28 players only had 14 players at camp due to injuries and covid cases and restrictions.
Explaining the current situation of the team, coach Tom Saintfiet said:
“On the third day in Qatar, 14 players available, 4 positive Covid cases, 4 players not released by their clubs due to last-minute disrespectful rule of FIFA, 2 players not allowed to fly because not fully vaccinated and 2 players injured”.
Unless otherwise, this could be a major blow that will dampen the moods within the team’s camp if the situation is not urgently taken care of.
The Scorpions who traveled to Qatar for a training camp had their first training sessions with the 14 players in camp.
The team is expected to play a test game against Algeria and Syria before flying to Cameroon for the continental showpiece
