The Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) has underlined that reconciliation cannot be talked about without justice.
“You cannot talk about reconciliation, justice if we encourage impunity. Therefore, those who bear the greatest responsibility must be prosecuted,” Emmanuel Daniel Joof told TAT in an interview immediately after the publication of the government’s TRRC White Paper on Wednesday.
“There has to be justice so that we can reconcile as a nation,” he emphasized.
The NHRC chair acknowledged that the publication of the White Paper on TRRC recommendations has finally shown that the government of The Gambia has accepted that the findings of the TRRC are factual and that ‘we need to move forward to have a better society.
