Gambian track queen and Africa’s fastest female athlete Gina Bass who currently holds the continent 100 meters record in the women’s category, says she aims to reach the finals in the 200 meters race at the world athletics championship underway in the United States.

Gina is currently in Oregon, USA, with sprinter Ebrima Camara to represent The Gambia at the championship, which comes a few months before the commonwealth games.

Speaking to TAT Editor-in-Chief Sainey M.K Marenah in America, Gina Bass expressed her resolve to win for the Gambia, ‘My objective is to reach the finals in the 200 meters race.’

She indicated that despite being Africa’s 100 meters race champion, she is competing in the 200 meters category this time.

‘I really appreciate the efforts of TAT in reaching me for an interview. Let’s continue to pray for the best for the Gambia. I intend to make it to the finals on Monday, ‘ Gina said.

After the world athletics championship, the duo is scheduled to compete at the Commonwealth Games in London, UK.

Ebrima Camara, looking to recover from his disappointment in the 100 meters heats with breakthroughs in other track events, thanked Gambians for the rousing welcome in the United States.

Camara qualified for preliminary rounds, but an early heat exit truncated his progress to the next level.
