A resident of Lamin, Sanna Kuyateh, and his friend Abdoulie Jallow narrowly escaped a violent robbery late on Christmas day, when a group of over 10 young men, initially mistaken for a festive caravan, attacked them with cutlasses and knives.
The incident occurred as the pair walked home after checking Jallow’s vehicle, which was under repair at a local garage. What appeared to be a celebratory group suddenly turned aggressive, surrounding the victims and demanding their belongings.
Kuyateh lost D3,500 in cash and a new pair of shoes worth D1,800. Jallow resisted fiercely, resulting in injuries to his legs and a finger, but he lost two phones and money. The victims managed to flee and seek help; Jallow received hospital treatment.
After the attack, Kuyateh issued a statement urging the Gambia Police Force to address security risks from unregulated caravans, warning that criminals exploit such gatherings. He called for heightened vigilance amid rising concerns over national security.
