Award-winning Gambian writer Amir Yaya Sillah adds a new publication to his glowing collection as he authored a new book titled The Great Marabouts of Senegambia. Recently, speaking to GRTS, Amir Sillah said that over the past five years, he has been conducting extensive research both in The Gambia and abroad to gather accurate information about Marabouts and their impact on the subregion.

The Great Marabouts of Senegambia” presents insightful research into the emergence, life, and works of marabouts, whose efforts continue to shape advances in West African society.
According to the author, the Marabout institution is the only entity that survived the transatlantic slave trade and European colonialism in Africa.
Sillah noted the immense works of Marabouts to society, saying recent generations often overlook their contributions.
The author highlights some of the great contributions made by Marabouts in Senegambia in the book, especially in teaching and guiding the masses towards spiritual enlightenment.
The book synthesizes African spiritualism from the past to the present, covering many topics, including pre-Islamic Africa, the advent of Islam, 18th-century jihad, and Marabouts in Europe.
The Great Marabouts of Senegambia is Amir Sillah’s second book this year. In May, he authored The Future is Now.
Over the past ten years, the acclaimed author and scholar has written nine books on various topics, focusing on the country’s history and socio-economic pathways.
