BAC Defies Gov’t Order to Halt Town Beautification Project

The Brikama Area Council (BAC) has vowed to continue its ongoing beautification works in the town despite receiving a formal stop-work notice from the Department of Physical Planning under the Ministry of Lands.

In a strongly worded public statement, BAC Chairman Yankuba Darboe described the order as “nonsense” and a politically motivated witch-hunt targeting the council since its election. He claimed no other area council faces similar restrictions, accusing President Adama Barrow of abusing power against the BAC.

The notice reportedly cited the lack of a required development permit for the beautification activities and demanded an immediate halt until proper authorization is obtained.

Defiant, the chairman declared the council will not comply and is prepared to face any consequences, stating, “We are ready to die doing what we have sworn to do to develop our region! We will stand our ground, and there will be no retreat or surrender.”

The standoff highlights tensions between local authorities and central government planning oversight in the West Coast Region. Residents await further developments as works proceed.
