The Bakau Sports Committee’s ongoing Nawettan qualifying round has reached its climax, with 26 teams vying for a spot in the Nawettan proper. Four relegated teams are also set for the playoffs, intensifying the competition.
Among the contenders are three-time champions Luniburg, newly promoted side Kolonding, Birmingham and Dwaynamics. These four teams are expected to battle it out against the last four qualifying teams in what promises to be an exciting showdown.
The Bakau Sports Committee has recently entered a new era following its last Annual General Meeting, where new executives were elected, led by Gambia national team manager Ousman Cho Drammeh. Upon his election, Mr. Drammeh made a personal pledge to provide three new footballs to each team participating in the Nawettan proper. “This is my pledge, not from the Committee. I will give each team three proper footballs,” he stated.
This year’s Nawettan promises to be rewarding, with the winner set to take home D100,000, while the runner-up will receive D75,000—the highest prizes ever offered in the competition. Additionally, the Super Cup winner is expected to receive D30,000, with the runner-up taking D20,000.
While anticipation builds, no official dates have been released for the Super Cup nor the Nawettan proper.
