The Basse Area Council has declared that Bai Gibbi Sallah, the acting chief executive officer, has been dismissed from his services and has departed from the Council effective immediately.
The Council said Mr Sallah’s recall is related to his unlawful withdrawal of funds from the Council’s accounts in 2023.
“On October 12, 2023, a resolution was passed by the General Council, recommending the removal of the Acting Chief Executive Officer for his unlawful withdrawal of D50,000 from Council accounts,” a press statement issued by the Council said.
It adds that “following extensive investigation and engagement with the relevant authorities on this matter, Mr Bai Gibbi Sallah, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, has been recalled from his services and has left the Council with immediate effect.”
The new leadership of the Basse Area Council has recently taken significant steps in fighting corruption in an institution that grappled with massive financial mismanagement during the previous regime.
In June 2023, the Council passed a resolution against some senior officials and sent them on administrative leave for being adversely mentioned in the former Council’s audit report for alleged financial mismanagement.
In April 2024, the Council also suspended a senior revenue collector for going around communities and illegally collecting funds from villagers and household owners on false pretenses.
