A prominent Gambian businesswoman has threatened legal action against a woman she accuses of launching a vicious online smear campaign, including claims linking her to a child’s death, ritual practices, and sexual misconduct.
Counsel Coumbeh Gaye of Antouman A.B. Gaye & Co. has issued a formal cease-and-desist notice to Ms. Amie Kinteh, demanding she immediately halt and retract a series of allegedly defamatory statements posted on TikTok in November 2025.
The dispute stems from a commercial tenancy arrangement. According to the legal notice, Mrs. Sainabou Mbye lawfully rented a shop at an annual rent of D100,000 for her business operations. In April 2025, Ms. Kinteh reportedly approached Mbye, citing difficulties with her own premises. Mbye allegedly allowed Kinteh to occupy and operate from the shop in good faith. Tensions arose when rent became due, with Kinteh disputing the duration of her stay.
The legal complaint centers on TikTok broadcasts allegedly made by Ms. Kinteh on or around 11 November 2025, which reportedly reached over 15,000 viewers. The notice accuses Kinteh of making multiple false and damaging claims, including: Accusing Mrs. Mbye of responsibility for the death of a child known as “baby Muhammed.” The law firm states that a court previously acquitted Mrs. Mbye in connection with that matter and insists any suggestion of criminal involvement is entirely baseless; Alleging that Mrs. Mbye engages in occult practices, idol worship, and other rituals described as “culturally and socially dangerous” in the Gambian context, risking social exclusion and harm; Making accusations of sexual immorality and marital infidelity, which the firm says are particularly harmful given Mrs. Mbye’s status as a married woman; Questioning her religious integrity by claiming she does not pray or fast; Asserting that Mrs. Mbye fraudulently obtained academic qualifications, awards, media interviews, and public recognition and Suggesting Mrs. Mbye manipulated Ms. Kinteh for political purposes.
The lawyers argue that these statements constitute defamation, harassment, and malicious falsehood, and have been amplified by encouraging other TikTok users to host similar live discussions.
Mrs. Mbye has strongly denied all allegations, stating she has suffered severe reputational damage, distress, and humiliation.
The cease-and-desist letter demands that Ms. Kinteh immediately cease making or publishing any further statements about Mrs. Mbye; remove and retract all existing statements; and issue a public apology and retraction on the same TikTok platforms, explicitly acknowledging that the statements were false.
Ms. Kinteh has been given seven days to comply or negotiate under the High Court Civil Procedure Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules, 2024. Failure to do so will result in court proceedings, including claims for damages, legal costs, and other remedies.
The firm warned that, unless the matter is resolved within the stipulated period, it will initiate legal action without further correspondence.
Neither Ms. Kinteh nor her representatives has yet responded to the allegations.
