Seize 128,745 Ecstasy Pills

In a significant breakthrough, operatives from the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), stationed at Banjul International Airport, have conducted a successful sting operation resulting in the seizure of 128,745 ecstasy pills. This operation led to the arrest of Saikou Krubally, a Gambian national with a Spanish residence permit. The suspect was found with the pills concealed in three separate suitcases upon his arrival on an SN Brussels Airlines flight.

The operation, conducted on February 2, 2025, saw Krubally being monitored upon his arrival and subsequently apprehended near the Sukuta Traffic Light around 19:59 GMT. This seizure is considered one of the largest single ecstasy busts at an airport in the subregion.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Krubally traveled from Barcelona to Amsterdam, where he acquired the ecstasy pills, before continuing his journey to Banjul via Brussels. It is reported that he was promised a fee of €10,000 for transporting the pills.

Krubally is currently in custody as further investigations are underway. This seizure is part of a series of significant drug busts by DLEAG operatives at the airport, underscoring the agency’s commitment to deterring illicit drug trafficking through Banjul International Airport.

In recent months, the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking, leading to several significant seizures at Banjul International Airport.

In December 2024, a two-month covert operation resulted in the arrest of three Nigerian nationals found with 40,227 ecstasy tablets smuggled from India. In a concurrent operation, DLEAG, in collaboration with the Joint Airport Interdiction Task Force (JAITF), apprehended a Gambian national arriving from Germany with 47,078 ecstasy pills on an SN Brussels Airline flight.

Additionally, in September 2024, DLEAG operatives intercepted a Gambian national traveling from Switzerland who was found with 60 blocks of Moroccan hashish, reportedly collected from an acquaintance in Spain. Over a three-month period, these operations have led to the seizure of over 215,000 ecstasy pills, along with substantial quantities of cocaine, Moroccan hashish, Skunk cannabis, and other drugs.

DLEAG management has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and called upon the public for support and active participation. The agency encourages citizens to report any suspicious drug-related activities and emphasizes the importance of community involvement in effectively addressing the drug situation.
