Police officers from the Gambia Police Force’s Police Intervention Unit (PIU) deployment at Tayba Camp, Kaur, have arrested three men accused of stealing money from a motor vehicle in the area.
The incident unfolded around 3:00 p.m. when police officers were informed that civilians had apprehended two suspects and escorted them to the residence of Chief Perre Bah. Reinforcement was urgently requested to handle the situation.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police proceeded to the Chief’s residence. There, they learned that three individuals were involved in the alleged theft. Members of the public had already detained two, while the third suspect — described as wearing military-style camouflage — had fled and was believed to be hiding at a nearby bar.
The officers immediately moved to the bar and conducted a search of the premises and the surrounding area. Upon spotting the police, the third suspect attempted to escape but was pursued and apprehended. A search on him recovered a total of 100,500 CFA francs and 3,750 Gambian dalasis.
The three suspects were identified as Modou Faal, a Gambian national residing in Kaur, and two Senegalese nationals, Kadim Gaye and Sheik Busso. According to the complainant, the total amount stolen from the vehicle was 100,000 CFA francs. The recovered cash is believed to form part of the stolen money.
All three suspects were escorted to Kuntaur Police Station for further investigation and necessary police action.
The prompt response by PIU personnel, cooperation from local civilians, and the Chief’s residence helped ensure the suspects were quickly brought into custody, preventing further flight.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by security forces in the Central River Region to maintain law and order and respond effectively to reports of theft in rural and semi-urban communities.
