The Ecowas Female Parliamentarians Association (ECOFEPA) of Ecowas Parliament has made a historic decision, electing Honorable Maimuna Ceesay, the only female in The Gambia’s delegation to the Ecowas Parliament, as Secretary General of its new executive committee. This is a moment of pride and inspiration for all women in politics.
ECOFEPA is made up of female Parliamentarians in the Community’s Parliament.
Its primary focus has been advocating for more representation of women in decision-making and politics.
Under the ongoing Speaker Sidie Mohamed Tunis, the Association is allocated a special budget to implement various programmes in member states.
The new executive is Veronica Sesay of Sierra Leone as President, Senator Chantal Fanny Moussokour of Ivory Coast as first Vice President, Senator Ireti Kingibe of Nigeria as second Vice President, Isa Filomena Pereira Soares Da Coast of Cape Verde as third Vice President, Maimuna Ceesay of The Gambia as Secretary General, Blessing Onuh of Nigeria as Deputy Secretary General, and Konou Agbandao of Togo as Treasurer.
Following her election, Hon Maimuna Ceesay welcomed her new role as a win for the Gambia and promised to deliver on the Association’s expectations.
