Former Vice President Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang has vowed to transform The Gambia’s digital landscape by empowering influencers and content creators with robust monetization opportunities if she wins the presidency in 2026.
Speaking at the engaging “A Chat with Youth Influencers” event, Tambajang outlined her ambitious vision to collaborate with experts in developing comprehensive frameworks that enable young Gambians to earn a sustainable income from their online work. “We will work with specialists to explore every avenue, ensuring our talented youth can turn their passion into sustainable income,” she declared to an enthusiastic audience of digital leaders.

The proposal focuses on forging partnerships for specialized training, mentorship programs, and improved access to funding. Tambajang aims to elevate The Gambia’s digital economy, positioning it as a regional hub for creativity and innovation. The session featured vibrant discussions on pressing national issues, including resource constraints and ways to foster greater innovation among the youth.
Tambajang, who formally announced her independent presidential candidacy earlier this year, placed youth empowerment at the heart of her campaign. She called for significant reforms to the National Youth Service Scheme and a strengthened role for the National Youth Council to support emerging talents better.
Amid the focus on digital growth, Tambajang did not shy away from political controversies. She sharply criticized President Adama Barrow’s alliances with the former ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), labeling them “unethical.” She advocated for a five-year political ban on the APRC to facilitate national healing from past human rights abuses under the previous regime.

Tambajang’s outreach to influencers represents a strategic effort to mobilize young voters and harness digital platforms for broader national development. Her campaign blends economic promises for the creative sector with calls for ethical governance, setting the stage for a competitive 2026 presidential election against her former boss, President Barrow.
