The Gambia Amputee Football Association (GAFA) has announced plans to celebrate the country’s Persons With Disabilities on World Disability Day on Saturday, 3rd December 2023 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
“Our association will organize a grand celebration for this year’s event to create more awareness about Persons With Disability. We have a lot of talented individuals within our communities. Still, they are left out of our daily activities in most communities simply because they are not able bodies. These are some of the things we want to be eradicated in the country and make people understand that we should be giving equal opportunities in all works of life because we are part and parcel of the country like anyone else,” Dawda Danso, secretary general of the association told Alkamba Times.
The observance of this year’s event aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, well-being, and inclusion of Persons With Disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and economic life.
A football match will be played between the two giants of Amputee football in the Kanifing municipality and the West Coast Region.
“These are the two strongest teams in our league competing for the title this year. You will be amazed at the number of talented players in these two teams if you watch the match on that particular day. Disability is not inability,” Danso added.
