The Gambia has joined the international community in mourning the tragic loss of 20 Turkish service members in a military cargo plane crash in Georgia on 11th November 2025. Both the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Government of The Gambia have issued heartfelt statements expressing solidarity with Türkiye during this period of national grief.
In a condolence message released today, the United Democratic Party (UDP) described the incident as a profound tragedy. “The United Democratic Party (UDP) expresses its profound sorrow upon learning of the tragic military plane crash in the Republic of Türkiye, which claimed the lives of 20 dedicated service personnel,” the statement read.
Speaking on behalf of the Party Leader, the National Executive Committee, and the entire UDP membership and supporters, the party extended its deepest sympathies to the Turkish government, the bereaved families, and the Turkish people. The UDP highlighted Türkiye’s role as a key development partner to The Gambia, particularly in the training and professional development of the Gambian armed forces.
“As brothers and sisters in faith, we pray that Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate, grants the departed eternal rest and comforts their families with patience and strength,” the UDP stated, underscoring the deep cultural and religious ties between the two nations.
Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad issued an official press release on behalf of the Government and people of The Gambia. “We express deep sorrow following the tragic crash of a Turkish military cargo plane in Georgia on Tuesday, 11th November 2025, which claimed the lives of 20 service members,” the statement said.
The government extended sincere condolences to Türkiye and the families of the deceased, praying for strength, comfort, and eternal peace for the departed souls. “In this time of mourning, The Gambia stands in solidarity with Türkiye, offering our support and prayers for healing and resilience,” the release affirmed.
Both statements reflect The Gambia’s strong bilateral relationship with Türkiye and a shared sense of loss over the untimely deaths of the service personnel. As the Turkish nation grieves, messages of support continue to pour in from allies worldwide, with The Gambia standing firmly in unity.
The UDP closed its message with a call for acceptance of heartfelt sympathies, while the government concluded with a solemn prayer: “May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their families and loved ones find comfort and courage in the days ahead.”
