The Gambia and Africa’s best Referee Bakary Papa Gassama is handed the whistle for today’s gigantic World Cup game between Qatar and Netherlands.
Seasoned Referee Bakary Papa Gassama is the only Gambian central Referee to officiate an Olympic tournament, the FIFA World Cup, and the African Cup of Nations. He became the first Gambian to officiate the Africa Cup of Nations final when he took charge of the Ghana – Ivory Coast game in Equatorial Guinea in 2015.
Bakary Papa Gassama was appointed as the central Referee to officiate Tuesday’s last group game between the host nation Qatar and The Netherlands in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022.
Papa will become the first Gambian and African Referee to officiate in 3 consecutive World Cups.
