The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Yakuba A. Drammeh, has been awarded the “African Peace and Security Leader of The Year 2022” by the African Leadership Organization.

The award ceremony was held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Lieutenant General Drammeh battled in this category alongside the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and the Chief of Defence of the Rwandan Defence Force, General Jean Bosco Kazura.

CDS Drammeh emerged as the winner by beating the two distinguished personalities to the award through a vote-based endorsement in which he scored 77.09% of the votes.

Drammeh won it in the 11th African Leadership Persons of The Year 2022, an award reserved annually for leading African personalities who contribute positively towards promoting the continent’s progress and completely altering Africa’s perceived negative image.

The awards also honor people-centered leadership and Africans pursuing a Pan-African agenda in their chosen field of endeavor.
