Gambian international midfielder Kaddy Jatta has reflected on the Red Scorpions campaign in the just concluded WAFU A Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The debutant Red Scorpions picked four points. Jatta was outstanding and got many applauds from players and fans at the BO stadium. She was the Woman of the Match against AS Mande & Mogbwemo Queens and finished second best behind Determine Girls FC Jessica Quachie.

Jatta was unstoppable in their 1-0 win against the Mali giants AS Mande, winning the most tackles and aerial duels. Her exploits in Sierra Leone have made a number of West African clubs to seek for her signature.

“We came for the trophy, but unfortunately we ended up losing our first two games, which we believe we put in a solid and commanding performance. We believe in our team, which is why we didn’t make any adjustments regarding signing players, and we truly believe we would be representing WAFU A in South Africa. Actually, all the teams we faced did struggle against us; the difference was they capitalised on their chances while we didn’t. We were not clinical in front of goal.” She mentioned

The double at the end of the 2023/2024 season was Kaddy’s fifth tittle with the Red scorpions.

Despite playing in the middle, she scored nine goals and assisted 12 in the league while scoring one and assisting three in the FA Cup.

Jatta was beaming with confidence and felt less inferior to her opponents.

“The quality players that we have, I didn’t see any team that had it; we possessed the ball a lot and dominated games. I told the girls there is no team that can stop us.”

“I am happy with my performances; I could have done extremely well than what I delivered. What I performed in Gambia was more than this; it was a stiff battle because many teams came with a very good selection from their country. We will come back stronger, as of now we are going back to fix what is wrong.” She added

Mbassy Jatta scored one, Catharine Jatta scored two, with the latter winning one Women of the Match, while Mam Drammeh crowned champions, giving the Gambia a good representation in the qualifiers.

Senegal Eagles of Medina will be representing WAFU A after being champions. Both Determine Girls and Mogbewmo Queens were in pole position before finally going in favour of the Senegalese. The competition will be held in November 2024, comprising champions from WAFU A, WAFU B, COSAFA, UNIFFAC, CECAFA, and UNAF.
