Hon. Muhammed Magassy has declared his intention to contest under an NPP ticket in April’s National Assembly elections in the Gambia.
Hon. Magassy is the National Assembly member for the Basse constituency, and has been an Independent MP from 2012 to 2022.
He has now announced that he would be vying for ma third term in parliament through an NPP ticket.
“I intend to seek the mandate of the people of Basse as their representative. This decision of NPP and myself are considered to be in the best interest of the people of Basse Constituency,” Magassy declared in a press release.
However, going by reactions on social media from constituency natives and the Upper River region at large, many have condemned his decision to contest, and are calling on him to give chance to the young ones.
“We need a new face this time around. He wasn’t venting out our grievances; therefore, Basse and Fulladu East needs a new MP,” one Dodou Jallow wrote.
“It’s high time that Hon. Magassy comes forward and present to the electorates his achievements for the people of Basse during his two terms, and why he should be re-elected,” another person said.
“He is better than those names I am hearing”, according to Abdourahman Barry.
“We are in a democratic Gambia and he has held this position for ten years. I think it is not fair to vie for the same position for the third time” Sheriff Baldeh said.
