Saturday bout between Tapha Tine and Boy Balla has been named after Kanifing Municipal Council mayor, Mr . Talib Bensouda.
Tapha Tine, coming from a defeat against France, will seek revenge against Boy Balla.
The Champion Sound promotion has other wrestling bouts, such as Gainako v Selle, Mundow, and Zora v Confiance at the Serekunda West mini stadium.
Bensouda acknowledges the recognition bestowed by the Sukuta music guru cum wrestle promoter.
” I am grateful for this recognition; every politician is looking for recognition. I was about to sponsor a bout called the mayor trophy. But when I saw this flier at Churchill’s town, I asked myself when is this event. So I went to the stadium because of the invitation, and since then, I have become a big fan of wrestling,” the KMC Mayor said.
Kemo Bojang, among others who received Lamin Cham at the municipality, said the KMC Cultural group would help promote wrestling.
“The KMC cultural committee will push and support wrestling. Backway has become a thing of the past now, thanks to wrestling. On Sunday, Senegalese were united, and they made millions. We saw the country was at a standstill because of the bout. We have seen potential in our wrestlers; we can harness it in our country.”
The first event of the year will see dignitaries from both Gambia and Senegal attending, with special guests called Koutiha and Wuyeh Marimo Ceesay in attendance.
