During the last campaign, Lamin Saidykhan won the player of the season but Modou Lamin Demba has set a benchmark this time.

Demba is behind eighty percent of Real de Banjul’s goals. (7 goals 4 assists 3 penalties created). The Bakau-born player gave an exclusive interview to Alkamba Sports at the end of the first round of the GFF First Division.

Alkamba Times Sports : Your current top goalscorer of the season, is it a coincidence or a target?

Modou Lamin Demba:  As a footballer, it should be in your plans. It’s my target in the beginning to win the top goalscorer and top assist provider of the season. I have that target every season, it depends on how the season unfolds. I want to win it all, you have to make a target, it will help my CV and help me individually.

Alkamba Times Sports: How does it feel for you as a young striker playing under an iconic coach like Bai Malleh Wadda?

Modou Lamin Demba:  He believed in me and trusted me, in return, I showcase my talent. Playing for Real De Banjul has been my childhood dream, it’s one of the biggest and best clubs in the Gambia. I was chosen in his starting XI in his first match. He has the experience and has been in Real, he always gives us positive advice, as an offensive player, I learn a lot from him on how to be clinical in the box, my movement and my composure in front of goal. He believes in all the players. He gave me confidence and that boasted and transformed me.

The technical team is just fantastic

Bai Omar Samba has been influential too, I have seen lots of changes & development from his advice as one of the most complete strikers the Gambia ever had.

Alkamba Times Sports: The title race is tight, will you give your record away for the title at the end of the season?

Modou Lamin Demba:

The title race is still wide open, even if you lead with a five to six points margin. If we have to win the league we have to be consistent, we are working on that consistency and it will help us a lot going forward. The players, management and fans have set their eyes on the title. Every game is a final for us until we win the league.

Winning the league will be a dream come true, I have won the FA Cup, Super Cup and Omar Sey trophy, and my target is to win the league. Real De Banjul last won the league six years ago. I am focused on teamwork, even if I am to create a space for the team to score I will be a proud champion”.

The right-footed winger can operate on both flanks and he is known for his dribbling tricks combined with his speed. He was voted as Real De Banjul’s top goalscorer & player of the season.

The young star has been sensational for the whites who lost Kjallay Drammeh, Bubacarr Tambedou and Ebrima Singhateh as the trio signed professional contracts abroad. Mino, as fondly called, has been touted as the best player of the season so far.
