The Accused Fatou Secka

Fatou Secka, a dismissed former staff member of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), is facing new legal challenges after the Gambia Police Force indicted her for a second time.

She appeared today at the Budung Magistrate Court after police prosecutors accused her of fraudulently obtaining GMD 3,455,000 from Momodou Marena under the false pretense of securing a plot of land measuring 15m by 30m.

This latest indictment comes just a week after Secka was charged with five criminal offenses related to financial fraud. The charges involved defrauding multiple individuals out of a total of GMD 3 million.

These charges, including obtaining money by false pretenses, were presented before Magistrate Krubally at the Banjul Magistrate Court.

During her court appearance on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Secka was accused of engaging in fraudulent schemes to collect significant sums of money by claiming to sell vehicles and goods that she allegedly had no intention of delivering.

The prosecution contends that Secka’s fraudulent activities date back to 2024 when she allegedly induced Gabriel Sohna to pay GMD 1.785 million by falsely promising to purchase him two motor vehicles and 1,600 liters of cooking oil.

According to the police, Secka knew these representations were false when they were made.

In the second count of the charges against Fatou Secka, the prosecution alleges that she obtained GMD 1,045,000 from Baboucarr Jallow, claiming it was for the sale of two Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles. Secka reportedly had no intention of completing this transaction.

The third charge involves Secka allegedly obtaining GMD 750,000 from Muhammed Jallow in exchange for selling him a vehicle.

In a fourth charge, she is accused of defrauding Ousman Gassama of GMD 110,000 through a similar fraudulent claim related to a vehicle sale.
Finally, the fifth count alleges that Secka defrauded Adama Jagne of GMD 125,000 under false pretenses regarding the sale of a vehicle.
