National Competitive Music Festival Organisers Call for Support Ahead of Independence Day Celebrations

Organizers of the National Competitive Music Festival, scheduled for February 18, 2025, are seeking support ahead of the event, which coincides with The Gambia’s 60th independence anniversary.

According to the organizers, the festival aims to promote talented young stars in the Gambia music industry as it gains participants nationwide. 

Seventeen (17) young stars who dreamed of becoming professional artists made it to the finalist list of this music festival and are expected to perform at Qcity on an independent night. 

Mr. Mahmoud L. Jawla, Acting Executive Director of the National Sports Council, stated that supporting this event is a way to support youths in National development,  noting that music plays a pivotal role in the quest for self-employment.

“We have a role to play in ensuring our youths stay home and then live a meaningful life; in doing so, what we can do as a Council is to venture into promoting Music as a way for young people to choose as a decent way of life  and also use it to promote sports.”

The Gambia has seven administrative regions. However, some regions in the National Competetive Music Festival have more than one representative. Saul Sowe explained how the selection process is being conducted, as Banjul booked two finalized.

“In each of the regions, the judges have their Vito powers to see if there is another talent that they can’t do without it, but there’s exceptional finalize, so they decided to choose some of the finalize who are copied members in some regions. ” Juluv Arts entertainment boss explained.

He assured the gathering that his team would continue collaborating with these youngsters in the music industry. 

Mr Lamin Jawara spoke about the importance of the National Competetive Music Festiva and called on institutions for support.

“We know the government can’t do it alone. We, therefore, spread our hearts to cooperate institutions. This is a call for support; please come and support us.”

According to the organizers, the winners will receive five hundred thousand Dalasis, the runners-up three hundred thousand Dalasis, and the third place two hundred thousand Dalasis. Additionally, each participant is expected to receive a reward.
