In a heartwarming display of support for education and youth empowerment, prominent Gambian philanthropist Mr. Modou Turo Darboe has donated 50,000 Indian Rupees (INR 50,000), equivalent to at least 45,000 Dalasi, to the Association of Gambian Students in India (Gam-Ind) through his Vision Development Foundation.

The generous contribution came during the 9th Executive Council of Gam-Ind’s recent courtesy visit to the Gambia High Commission in New Delhi. The meeting, held to present the association’s activities report in fulfillment of its constitutional mandate, took an uplifting turn when Mr. Darboe unexpectedly joined the session in the conference hall.

The donation responds to Gam-Ind’s earlier appeal for financial assistance sent to various organizations and entities in The Gambia. Notably, Mr. Darboe and the Vision Development Foundation were the only respondents, underscoring the timeliness and significance of their support amid the association’s financial challenges.

Gam-Ind leaders expressed profound gratitude for the gesture. The Association President, Sarjo A.K. Jarju, described it as “both encouraging and motivating,” highlighting its role in enhancing the organization’s financial sustainability.

Finance Minister Mr. Ebrima YS Cham echoed these sentiments, noting that the donation arrived at a critical time when the association faces serious financial constraints. “This support comes as a major relief,” he said, assuring stakeholders that the funds would be managed with utmost transparency and accountability in accordance with financial regulations.

Other executive members joined in the appreciation. Vice President Modou Lewis, Education Minister Mr. Mustapha Ceesay, Deputy Information and Communication Minister Mr. Abdoullie Bawo, and Logistics Minister Miss Ajaratou Manneh collectively praised the contribution for boosting morale and reinforcing their commitment to serve Gambian students across India.

The executives emphasized that acts of generosity reassure them that their efforts are noticed, motivating them to redouble their efforts to promote academic excellence, unity, and national pride.

In response, Gam-Ind reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and prudent use of resources. The association pledged to channel the funds effectively to strengthen student representation and advance impactful programs.

Mr. Darboe’s contribution highlights his ongoing commitment to youth development and education, providing a vital lifeline for Gambian students navigating life abroad. As Gam-Ind continues its mission, this donation stands as a beacon of hope and solidarity from home.
