The head of the Technical Committee of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC) for the Gambia’s participation in Africa Cup of Nations 2024, Mr. Ebou Faye, has announced that the senior national team of the Gambia (Scorpions) will be holding their training camp in Saudi Arabia and Morocco as part of preparation ahead of the AFCON 2024 in Ivory coast next year.
At a news conference at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Faye said: “The team will depart from Banjul to Saudi Arabia on the 27th of December 2024, where we will start our training camp in Saudi and end up in Morocco. We are also working on a possible test match with other national teams during the training camp; we are still making arrangements for those matches, but they still need to be confirmed. “
He said: ” Both Saudi and Morocco have been our key partners in football development, especially Morocco, which has contributed immensely to our qualifiers for the Cup of Nations, and that’s why we have decided to have two training camps in these countries.”
The team will return to Banjul on the 7th of January to meet with President Adama Barrow, who will officially hand over the Gambian flag to the squad as a tradition ahead of the continental football showpiece in Ivory Coast.
