A 22-year-old Gambian immigrant, Ebrima Loppy, was fatally stabbed in Parkville, Maryland, early Monday — marking the second tragic death of a young Gambian in the United States in just over a week, following the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Abubacarr Darboe in Madison, Wisconsin, on December 20.

Baltimore County police arrested a suspect at the scene after responding to reports of a dispute. Authorities described the incident as isolated, with charges pending. The Gambian diaspora community mourns another devastating loss amid rising concerns over violence affecting young immigrants.

Baltimore County Police responded to a call around 4:05 a.m. in the 1700 block of Edgewood Road, near Loch Raven Boulevard in Parkville. Officers arrived to find Loppy suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police described the stabbing as an “isolated incident stemming from a dispute,” indicating the individuals involved knew each other.

Local media outlets reported on the incident, noting resident concerns about rising crime despite the isolated nature of the event. Neighbors expressed shock, with one telling reporters the area feels increasingly dangerous.

This tragedy comes barely a week after 21-year-old Abubacarr Darboe, a Gambian immigrant, was fatally shot on December 20 in Madison, Wisconsin. Darboe died from gunshot wounds in the 3500 block of Portage Road, in what family sources described as a possible case of mistaken identity. The Madison shooting drew attention from Gambian media and community supporters rallying for the grieving family.

Both victims were young men pursuing lives in the United States, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by immigrant communities amid personal disputes that turned deadly. While police in both cases emphasize the incidents were not random, the back-to-back losses have sparked quiet mourning within Gambian diaspora groups.

As investigations continue in Maryland, authorities urge anyone with information to contact Baltimore County Police at 410-887-INFO or to remain anonymous through Metro Crime Stoppers.

The Gambian community in the US, already supporting Darboe’s family, now faces another devastating blow with Loppy’s death.
