Alarm bells are ringing in Ziguinchor after an HIV positive sex worker was arrested by the country’s law enforcement body. The Nigerian national, who is fully aware of her medical status, deliberately chose to interact with a large number of clients.
In a news dispatch seen by The Alkamba Times, the Senegalese Police stated that they received a tip from a source familiar with the matter, indicating that the Commercial Sex worker aimed to contaminate her clients in an attempt to spread the infectious virus.
The report also emphasizes that before her arrest on October 30, B.D. Elohr, also known as Nelly, was in The Gambia but did not indicate whether she had been in contact with people.
Meanwhile, calls are intensifying for the Ziguinchor authorities to issue a public health alert in order to diagnose those who have been infected.
