Senegalese gendarmerie forces have arrested 12 individuals, including prominent TV host Pape Cheikh Diallo and artist Djiby Dramé, as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged network involving “unnatural acts,” criminal conspiracy, and the deliberate transmission of HIV/AIDS.

The operation, led by the Keur Massar Research Brigade in the Dakar suburbs, began after intelligence pointed to an HIV-positive individual continuing to engage in unprotected same-sex relations. The primary suspect was arrested on February 4, 2026. Medical tests confirmed his HIV-positive status, and during questioning, he reportedly admitted knowing his condition while infecting around ten partners, many contacted via WhatsApp groups.

Two additional partners arrested that day also confessed to being aware of their HIV-positive status, yet continuing unprotected encounters. Further probes over the following days led to five more arrests on February 5 and four on February 6, totaling 12 detainees—all Senegalese nationals.

HIV screening results showed six of the arrested individuals tested positive, two await final medical confirmation, and four tested negative. The suspects face charges of criminal association, acts against nature (under Senegal’s laws criminalizing same-sex activity), voluntary HIV transmission through unprotected sex, and endangering others’ lives.

The National Gendarmerie, in a press release from the Division of Communication and Public Relations, confirmed the arrests and stated the investigation continues to dismantle the whole network and assign responsibilities. The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of public figures: Diallo, 44, known for hosting the program ‘Quartier Général’ on TFM television, and singer Dramé.

Authorities emphasized public health and legal accountability amid the serious allegations. The prosecutor in the Pikine-Guédiawaye jurisdiction has been informed, with inquiries ongoing.
