Sibanor United FC etched their name into Gambian football history on Tuesday, claiming their maiden victory in the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Second Division with a commanding 5-2 triumph over RS Tallinding.

The debutants from Foni wasted no time announcing their arrival, racing to a three-goal lead inside the opening 18 minutes. Francis Gomez ignited the rout in the 9th minute with a clinical finish, before Abdoulie Tamba doubled the advantage just three minutes later. Modou Lamin Camara then produced a moment of magic in the 18th minute to make it 3-0, leaving Tallinding shell-shocked.

Though RS Tallinding managed to claw back two goals and briefly threaten a comeback, Sibanor remained unfazed. Gomez completed his brace to restore the three-goal cushion before substitute Adama Camara applied the finishing touch in the 75th minute, sealing an emphatic 5-2 final score.

Head coach Ebrima Camara hailed the performance as a reward for weeks of hard work. “We struggled to convert chances in our first two games, but today the boys responded brilliantly,” he told reporters. “It was a complete display — we could easily have scored seven or more. We’ve learned from early complacency and showed we belong at this level.”

Gomez, the two-goal hero, earned special praise, though Coach Camara was quick to credit the collective effort. “Francis is vital, but every player is equally important. They’ve played together for years and know how to bring the best out of each other.”

Hundreds of passionate supporters made the journey from Foni Jarrol and Foni Bondali to cheer on their team. “Thank you for your incredible support,” Coach Camara said. “This is our team, your team — we’re representing all of Foni and beyond.”

The landmark victory lifts Sibanor United as they aim to consolidate their place in the second tier following promotion from the third division qualifiers. Fans will now turn their attention to the next fixture, hoping their side can build on this statement performance.

In other notable results, Medina United FC also celebrated a historic first-ever win in the GFF First Division, defeating TMT 2-0.
