Sidibeh ends goal drought, double figures for Ali Sowe

The weekend roundup of Gambian foreign-based players produced a milestone: Ali Sowe reached double figures for the fourth time in his career. Adama Sidibeh ended his goal drought and sent St. Johnstone to the quarterfinals of the Scottish Cup.

England
Yankuba Minteh was handed his 11th start in all competitions as Brighton & Albion Hove beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Amex stadium to reach the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup. Chelsea took the lead within five minutes of action; however, Minteh laid off the ball for Veltman to set up Rutter for Brighton’s equalizer in the 12th minute. Twelve minutes into the second half, Mitoma brilliantly controlled Rutter’s pass and flicked it into the far corner for the winner.

Alassana Jatta doubled Notts County’s lead in the 75th minute. He brilliantly held off his man, got into the area, and rounded the keeper for his 14th league goal of the season. The match ended with Notts County 2, Morecambe 0. Saturday’s home victory has put Notts County second in the table.

Scotland
Adama Sidibeh handed St. Johnstone the winner two minutes after he was introduced against Hamilton Accies at McDiarmid Park. The Gambian international diverted a long-range strike from Graham Carey as the Saints reached the semifinals of the Scottish Cup.

Italy
Virtus Verona are unbeaten in their last three games, collecting 9 points on the road. Their 3-0 win away in Caravaggio against Atalanta U23 has sent them to 7th on the log standing with 36 points. Sheikh Sibi has now kept three clean sheets in a row to take his tally to seven for the season. Atalanta’s only threat came in the 38th minute, which Sibi saved. A brace from Mehic and De Marchi’s goal handed Gigi Fresco’s men the victory.

Switzerland
Young Boys are unbeaten in their last six games, winning their previous three games. Ebrima Colley has come off the bench in the last three leagues. Colley was on target in the midweek against Yverdon Sport. Colley’s shot deflected off the visitor’s defender; however, it reached Fassnacht, who added the fifth goal of the afternoon.

Croatia
Abdoulie Sanyang played a key role in Hajduk Split’s 1-0 win over NK Varazdin in the Croatian Premier League on Saturday by creating the chance that led to the team’s goal. Bamba completed the most dribbles (3) in the match.

Turkey
Ali Sowe has now joined Alassana Jatta and Musa Barrow in scoring double figures this season. Rizespor lost away to Kasımpaşa. Ali Sowe, who scored 4 goals in the last three games for Rizespor, grabbed his 10th goal of the season in the 80th minute.

Slovakia 

Podbrezova’s leading goal scorer, Alasana Yirajang, added another goal to his account as the Slovakian League returned to action. Yirajang now has seven league goals for Podbrezova. FK Železiarne Podbrezová draws 2-2 against Zemplin Michalovce.

Senegal
Casa Sports recorded their first victory against Guediawaye since March 2022 following their 3-2 win on Saturday. Abdoulie Bah, named the man of the match, scored the equalizer for the visitors in the 16th minute. Coly and Ibrahima Kouyate scored to hand the 2022 champions the much-needed three points.

Gibril Sosseh was on target in Kalmar FF’s victory over IFK Berga, scoring a stunner. Elsewhere, Paide secured a 2-1 win over Finnish side HJK. Muhammed Susso scored one and went to set the winner.

Baboucarr Fallaboweh Sports Editor (Buba Jallow Fallaboweh) is a Gambian football expert, football analyst & columnist. The Stockholm-based Journalist is a media officer, football Scout, PR, Influencer and Digital creator.
