Yakarr FC clinched West Coast Region Women Football third division championship following a 4-0 victory against Cobblers FC on Saturday.

The game Yakarr FC dominated eventually earned them a promotion to the GFF Women 2nd Division.

The club president Adama Jarju told Alkamba exclusively that there were challenges despite the success.

“Football is booming on the West coast, but more security and good referees are needed in one of the Gambia’s biggest regions when it comes to Football.” Adama indicated

“Yakar is one of the best female academies in terms of players and setup. Unfortunately, I have struggled in the 3rd Division, not because I lacked a team. Most of my players are loaned to First and Second Division clubs. A single mistake made us lose the previous league title, especially our promotion. Clubs like Greater Tomorrow, Berewulung, Prison FC, and Foni Girls all got promoted.
Sometimes it’s not our fault; the competition’s organizers remain on the spot most of the time. Our objective this season was to score and defend our lead.”

“Women’s football needs motivation, and we motivate our players. We provide free training materials and shoes for the seasons. We pay school fees for some, transport allowances for those coming from far, and match bonuses are paid in some matches. All these are motivations,” He stressed.

“We trust the players and their loyalty, some came, and others were hesitant to return from their loan deals. Therefore, we are optimistic that we might not even spend much time in Second Division. We plan to spend one year and get promoted,” Adama added.
