Rising Gambian artist Sparklyn Black, born Muhammed Sillah, has signed a groundbreaking 5-year record deal with Overview Media Group Ltd, a UK-Nigeria-based label celebrated for nurturing Africa’s top musical talents. The contract was sealed in a ceremony on Kololi’s bustling roads, symbolizing the artist’s roots and inspiring local youth.
The event, held outdoors rather than in a luxury venue, underscored a deliberate message of accessibility and hope. Organizers hailed it as a pivotal moment in Sillah’s journey from The Gambia’s street scenes to international stardom.
“I’ve been in this business a long time, and I never dreamed someone would believe in me enough to invest their resources in my career,” Sillah said, visibly emotional. “This wasn’t part of the plan we expected, but I’m happy, proud, and so grateful. Many artists here could have been chosen—picking me means everything.”
Sillah, known musically as Sparklyn Black, emphasized the signing’s broader impact. “As human beings, we must shoulder responsibility. We chose Kololi’s streets today to inspire more youth here to get signed. We want those losing hope to regain their senses and join us.”
He added that the location was intentional: “We could have gone to a hotel, but we’re speaking with actions, not just words. Losing isn’t the end of life—as long as you’re alive, healthy, and strong, anything is possible.”
