Through MegaSport Consulting, she is committed to strengthening legal expertise, governance, and compliance within the Gambian sports industry, while contributing to the development of local capacity in sports law and supporting the professional growth of athletes, agents, and sports institutions in The Gambia.

In this exclusive interview, she shares insights about her journey, her leadership philosophy, and the evolving landscape of sports governance.

Alkamba Times: Ndey, can you tell us about your academic journey and how it shaped your career?

My academic journey has been fundamental to everything I do today. Studying law at the University of Zurich provided a strong foundation in European and international legal frameworks. Pursuing my LL.M at King’s College London broadened my perspective and deepened my understanding of global legal systems.

Later, completing the Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Sports Law allowed me to specialize in a field that combines my passion for law with the dynamic world of sport. Sports today is not just competition, it is governance, commercial rights, compliance, ethics, and global regulation.

Alkamba Times: What inspired you to found MegaSport Consulting?

Sports is one of the fastest-growing global industries, yet governance and compliance structures often struggle to keep pace. However, one of my strongest motivations was the noticeable gap in sports law expertise in The Gambia.

As a Gambian, I understand the local realities, cultural context, and institutional challenges. For a long time, Gambian sports institutions have had to rely on lawyers from outside the country for specialized sports law matters. While international collaboration is valuable, I strongly believe that local expertise is essential for sustainable development.

Founding MegaSport Consulting was therefore not only a professional ambition but also a commitment to contributing to national capacity building. It is important that Gambian institutions have access to homegrown legal expertise in sports governance, compliance, and dispute resolution.

Our mission is to provide strategic legal, and compliance advisory services tailored specifically to sports organizations, federations, athletes, agents, and investors. We focus on integrity, transparency, and sustainable governance.

Alkamba Times: What are the biggest legal challenges currently facing the sports industry?

The main challenges include governance reform, financial transparency, anti-corruption measures, athlete representation, regulatory compliance for agents, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Additionally, with globalization and digital transformation, sports organizations must navigate data protection laws, international sponsorship agreements, and cross-border regulatory compliance. These complexities require specialized expertise.

Alkamba Times: You have advised and represented clients before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. What was that experience like?

Advising clients on sports law matters, including representing them before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, has been both challenging and rewarding. CAS proceedings require deep knowledge of international sports regulations, procedural rules, and arbitration practice.

The experience reinforced the importance of preparation, precision, and strategic legal thinking. It also highlighted how critical dispute resolution mechanisms are in preserving fairness and integrity in sport.

Being involved in such proceedings strengthened my commitment to ensuring that athletes, agents, and sports institutions receive robust and professional legal representation at the highest level.

Alkamba Times: What advice would you give to young professionals interested in sports law?

Develop a strong foundation in general law first. Sports law is multidisciplinary ,it touches corporate law, arbitration, contract law, and regulatory compliance.

Also, stay curious. The sports industry evolves rapidly, and continuous education is essential.

Alkamba Times: What advice would you give to young Gambian athletes seeking a breakthrough?

To young Gambian athletes, I would say, talent alone is not enough. Discipline, education and proper guidance are equally important. Understand your contracts before signing them, seek professional advice and prioritize long-term development over short-term opportunities.

It is also important to build strong character and maintain integrity. International scouts and clubs look beyond performance they value professionalism, consistency and attitude. Surround yourself with mentors who genuinely support your growth and always remain focused on both your sporting and personal development.

The world is watching African talent more than ever and Gambian athletes have immense potential. With the right structure, preparation and mindset, breakthrough opportunities are within reach.

Alkamba Times: You also work as a compliance officer. How does that experience influence your leadership?

Compliance work teaches discipline, attention to detail, and risk awareness. My experience working with companies such as Leonteq exposed me to high-level regulatory environments and international financial compliance standards.

This background ensures that MegaSport Consulting operates with the highest standards of governance and professionalism. It also helps our clients anticipate regulatory challenges rather than simply reacting to them.
