The Gambia Court of Appeal has dismissed former Junta member Yankuba Touray’s appeal motion against his conviction by the High Court for murder.

Yankuba Touray is serving life imprisonment for the murder of Gambia’s former Finance Minister, Ousman Koro Ceesay.

The High court in Banjul found Touray guilty of the murder in the killing of former Junta Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay and sentenced him to death by hanging — a ruling passed on the 14 of July 2021.

11 months later, Yankuba Touray appeared in the Court of Appeal to express his dissatisfaction over the ruling with an appeal motion, urging The Gambia Court of Appeal to overturn the High Court’s death sentence.

The judgment, which was put aside for Court’s December 13, 2022, saw the court dismissing Touray’s appeal — meaning he will have to serve the High Courts verdict.
