The supposed UDP supporter who released the viral WhatsApp audio calling on UDP supporters to unleash violence in the country following the victory of President Barrow has been charged by police prosecutors with terrorism.
The Spokesperson of The Gambia Police Force, ASP Lamin Njie confirmed to Alkamba Times late Wednesday evening.
Identified as one Madou Lamin Darboe of Busumbala, the suspect is currently detained and helping police in their investigations.
Police spokesman Lamin Njie said the suspect is charged with incitement to violence, publication of false news with intent to cause fear and alarm to the public, prohibition of acts of terrorism, supporting acts of terrorism, and false publication and broadcasting.
His arrest came following calls by UDP Leader, Lawyer Darboe for police to trace and if possible prosecute anyone calling for violence while distancing his party from comments made by the suspect.
